Well done to all that competed at this weekend’s Central Coast Open. Kugatsu judo was represented by the biggest team so far this year with 10 Judokas competing over 2 days. On Saturday night, the minies started the campaign with 5 athletes competing for the first time in the novice divisions Aidan Farrugia and Felix Fuentes claimed silver medals in their division and Lucas Fuentes claimed the gold. there was nervous parents and coaches but the minies showed they have what┬áit takes when it comes to competition and all Judokas got their first wins.
On Sunday it was the turn for the older Judokas as they searched for points for national qualifications. Mak Vugdalic claimed the Silver medal, Dmytro Kucheryavvy remains unbeaten this year and claimed the gold medal and Karen Pham showed that hard wok pays off also claiming her first ever gold medal. The sour note was that James Hoang suffered a fractured collar bone and will be out of training for a few weeks.
